Island Transportation
Aruba Hotels and Resorts do not operate shuttle service to and from
the airport. Taxis are always on-hand at the terminal and several car rental
companies have offices at the airport directly across from the terminal. There are many
car rental companies offering a wide variety of rental vehicles, from economy cars, vans, 4WD,
genuine Jeeps, convertibles, SUV's and luxury sedans. Many offer a shuttle service to and from
the airport.
If you are traveling on a charter flight, transfers to and from your hotel
are usually included. Check with your tour operator for details.
- Arubans drive on the right-hand side of the road.
- International road signs are used, speed limits are posted in kilometers.
- Right turns on red lights are NOT allowed anywhere.
- Car rental companies will provide maps and many visitor related magazines include road maps.
- The minimum age to rent a car is 21-25 and the maximum of 65-70 vary slighty by company.
- International driving license or any valid license held for at least two full years is required.
- Unlimited mileage; rates subject to change without notice.
- Deposit of US$500 or open signed credit card.
- Towing service available.
- Windsurf roof racks upon availability and upon request.
- Child seats are not required by law but most companies have them available.
- Pick up service available, with some exceptions, at the cruise terminal.
- Insurance recommended, but does not cover if the driver is intoxicated in a car accident.

Special note: Due to a change in regulations by the Aruba Airport Authority, only 10 car rental agencies may operate at the airport beginning in November, 2007. These on-airport agencies are currently National, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty, Alamo, Dollar, Avis and local companies Economy, Econo and Amigo. Most other companies have established a shuttle bus service to and from their off-airport offices.

Arubus
Arubus is inexpensive and reliable daily bus service between all the districts
and the hotel areas. Busses operate on a varying schedule averaging every
half hour between the major hotels and Oranjestad. Round trip tickets are
US$2.00. Transfers are made at the bus terminal in Oranjestad for other
destinations.

Taxis
Taxi service is safe and reliable. Most drivers own their cabs and many drive vans suitable for large groups. Taxis do not have meters; rates are fixed and should be checked in advance. Personnel at all hotels and restaurants will call a taxi for you if requested. Most taxi drivers have participated in the government's Tourism Awareness Program.
- Minimum fare is Awg. 9.00 / US$ 5.00. Exchange rate is Awg. 1.80 to US$ 1.00;
- Prices are based on distance with a maximum capacity of 5 passengers per taxi;
- Sundays, official holidays and after midnight there will be a surcharge of
Awg. 5.40 / US$ 3.00 to the regular fares;
- Each passenger from and to the airport is allowed one piece of luggage. For each additional piece of luggage there will be an additional charge of Awg. 3.60 / US$ 2.00 per piece
